Recital Tips (Katie Tupaj 3rd post)

RECITAL TIPS FOR BEGINNERS

It's finally your little girl's big night, and you want to do everything in your power to make this night perfect for your little star. Following the steps below will ensure the success of recital night.

Part 1: Make sure you are well prepared

Recital Checklist:
  • Costumes
  • Tights
  • Back up tights
  • Bobby Pins
  • Hairspray
  • Pack of hair elastics
  • Shorts
  • Baggy T-Shirt
  • Makeup
  • Cotton Balls
  • Q-Tips
Part 2: Preparations

1. To make your life easier, dress your little one in tights, sandals, dance shorts, and a baggy T-Shirt on recital day.

2. Before leaving the house put on base make up on your little munchkin.

3. Double check your bag in regards to the checklist aforementioned.

Part 3: Upon Arrival (Arrive 15 minutes before doors open to ensure good seats)

1. Make sure you put your bag and costumes in the dressing room in a place where you can easily recognize they are yours. (Tip: Somehow affix your last name to the costume bag)

2. Apply rest of makeup

3. Go get good seats!

Part 4: Getting Ready for Their Number

1. Go back stage 6 songs before your act.

2. Put on costume.

3. Fix hair.

4. Spray hair with hairspray until you know the hair cannot move.

5. If your costume has a hate, affix hat to head using extreme amount of bobby pins.

6. If the stage has hardwood floors, spray the bottom of the shoes with hairspray to prevent sliding and falling on stage!

7. Place them in line with their group in the side hallway.

8. Hurry back to your seat so you get to watch!

Other helpful tips for recital day:
  • Bring flowers or some other gift to give after her dance has finished.
  • Bring back up batteries for your camera.
  • You can never have enough hairspray or bobby pins (Aerosol can works better for hair while the pump bottle works better for the bottoms of shoes).
  • Pack your bag the day before, so you don't have to rush around on recital day.
  • Pack little snacks (It's usually a long recital)

  1. Katie, first of all, your blog looks so cute! I danced for five years when I was little and getting ready for the recital every year was my favorite part. Although the dancing part was exciting too, I loved getting ready even more, especially when I was really little. There was just something so exciting about wearing make up, getting my hair done, and wearing my costume. Looking over your recital checklist, I noticed you put a back-up pair of tights and I definitely agree with that! One of the worst things that could happen is getting a run in your tights before the show. It’s awesome that you put that on the checklist because I feel like a second pair of tights are easily forgotten. I also strongly agree with packing snacks. Recital days are always the longest and it is always good to have snacks to boost your energy.
