NBA 2k13 Review

NBA 2k13 is the Basketball video game made by 2k Sports. The 2k   franchise is one of the highest selling sports video games right next to EA sports.  The game was released on multiple platforms but most notably the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.  NBA 2k made a solid hit idea which attracted customers was the idea that Jay-z will produce all the music in the game.  The game play was essentially pretty similar   the 2k12.  There are however a couple of key changes in the game. A big enhancement is the trick stick; the trick stick is more focused on in this NBA 2k because the stick correlates with your motion.  The crossovers are even more deadly in this game as you leave your defenders in the dust.  Another enhancement was the defensive lock down, I felt in this game they made it more realistic because instead of just holding down a button, you now had to shadow their movement or be crossed up. Another great feature is more visual enhancement with the dunking.  The dunks are more animated and you can now control more of how you want to dunk.  My Player has a little more added the game mode. Players can now pick shoe contracts with Nike or Brand Jordan. Players can change all facets of their game, shooting, handles, post game, etc.  My Team is now a new feature which is basically like Ultimate Team EA sports has. Big addition to 2k is the bringing in The Dream Team 92’ and the 2012 Olympic team allowing players to end the debate.

The game did have two cons I simply did not like. I hated the fact that Greatest Mode was taken out. I viewed this as a history lesson for players who were not familiar with the old school teams.  I did not like how there was a few legend teams added. They still left out the 90’s Phoenix Suns with Barkley and Indiana Pacers with Reggie Miller.  They even left out the early 2000’s Portland Trailblazers  with Pippen and Wallace.

  1. I'm not usually a big basketball or NBA fan, but even I think that the NBA 2K games are a lot of fun. I still haven't gotten NBA 2K13, but I do have 2K12 and it's one of my favorite games to play. The 2K franchise seems to be behind EA Sports in every sports game, except for basketball. For football, hockey, and golf, EA Sports is them big winner, but I think 2K has managed to establish a stronghold in the NBA corner.
It's crazy how realistic they are making games these days. Your right, everything from the trick stick, to how every player in the video game has a shooting motion that resembles their real life motion, makes the game more realistic and fun to play. As you mentioned, I think it's funny how in modern games you can get sponsored by a brand such as Nike or Reebok or Jordan or whoever. It's almost as if it's not enough to just play video games anymore, people truly want to feel like they are really a part of it.

  2. I am definitely a fan of this game as well. I do not play it that much but when i watch my friends play it I always think that I am simply watching a real game that is live on TV. It is crazy how far game companies have come to make their game so realistic and live like. The dunks and cross ups are crazy too which I also think is a great addition to the game. I am definitely with you on the disappointment that they left some of the great old school teams out of the game like the Miller and Barkley teams. Overall it is by far one of the better 2K games that they have come out with to date.

  3. I think NBA 2k13 is one of the best NBA games that they made yet. It’s so much better than 2k12 because you can’t cheat that easily and its way more competitive. The animations are so much better and fun. In 2k12 it was so hard to cross up someone and then make the defender fall but in 2k13 its hard but if your skill enough it’s fun to do. I play 2k13 verses my friends and it’s so fun. Also the soundtrack and music is by Jay Z who is one of my favorite rappers so that’s a plus as well. I remember when I use to play NBA Live for EA Sports but then once I played 2K it was definitely a crossover. No wonder why the NBA 2K series is the leading basketball selling video game. I just hope every year they keep improving the 2k games so it could be flawless.

    1. Raza I thought your review on NBA2k13 was very accurate and spot on. I am in complete agreement with you about how the game should feature more legends teams because even though the players are amazing now those players back then were still great also. I also agree with Andre that this besides madden is the best selling sports video game and i myself love playing this game. My favorite parts of the game are the association where you can manage and play your own team I do pretty good in that not trying to brag, and I think my player has really evolved since last years game. This years my player is so much more realistic and flawless and the endorsements and achievements that you can get with your player are just amazing. Since the game was designed by Jayz the flow to the game is also more competitive and fun, hope we can play sometime your review on this game was really awesome!
