tips for hitting a tennis serve!

Tennis is a very complicated sport but I want to teach you guys out there who play tennis on how to improve your game especially the serve. There are several steps on to hit the perfect tennis serve.  First step, have a routine when coming to the service line and always keep the same routine so you can be in a groove every time your ready to serve.  Step two bend your back knee while your knee in the front is straight and this also requires to twist your waist.  While all of this is going on your back is also bending into a motion, almost like a curve.  Step three bend both your knees, at the same time your arm that is front of you should be straight while your arm slowly comes up in a fluent action that is going to release the ball.  Step four the ball should be the highest it can be in the air, as this is going on your back arm should be coming up fast while your jumping in the air.  Step five as your arm is going up fast it will be in line with your head, and you go to hit the ball with accuracy and power.  Your back arm controls how much spin you put on the serve, how hard you hit the serve, and you always got to watch that ball so it goes in the right place that you want it to go in.  I'll let you in on a couple secrets that the pros use when it comes to hitting the perfect serve.  Secret number one you should bend your knees and convert the power with your knees so that you are contributing power in your legs as well as your arms.  Secret number two is the mental mindset before serving.  The mental mindset is establishing where the ball is going before you hit it, and also confidence.  The mindset provides visually confidence when you step up to the service line.  Pete Sampras an amazing tennis player always did this he pictured the ball going into the court before actually serving.  Pete Sampras specialty was his serve.  Please take these tips into affect when you hit the court!

  1. Josh, I found your post very helpful. During the summer I play a lot of tennis for fun and I feel like serving is the hardest part; especially for a non-tennis player. Next time I play I will be sure to keep you advice in mind. Thanks!
